Wimbledon 2021 preview🎾
This years third grand slam event will take place at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club after a year break due to covid-19. The tournament is starting 28.6 and ends 11.7.
Novak Djokovic is a huge favourite going into this years Wimbledon. His biggest challengers according to bookers are Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and even the swiss legend, 8-time champion Roger Federer. Novak’s biggest rival Nadal is not competiting this year.
It’s impossible to not say Djokovic is a huge favourite. But we disagree with most of the other favourites. Most of the young guns are not ready for grass yet. Also taking consider that last season there were no grass court games, the names of Tsitsipas and Medvedev have not even played on grass during their peak years.
Federer doesn’t seem ready to compete for the win yet, starting his grass season poorly in Halle last week. Of the younger generation of players, Dominic Thiem has been more or less lost at Wimbledon and the general mood is not in favour of success this time either. Russia’s Andrey Rublev may have the tricks to go far this year. He has what many don’t, steady execution. He have been playing at high level now for a good while and his level don’t seem to drop. What about our young Canadians, Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime. They surely have the guns to go far, but their level has up and downs. It’s hard to believe them playing their best game the whole tournament. Big servers like Raonic, Isner and Opelka are expected to do good on grass and they will be hard to beat.
We believe in surprises at this years Wimbledon. A lot of favourites are going to struggle in the first rounds due to little experience and a long break on grass. We’ll post our winner/tournament performance bets after the chart is published!
